Weak Hand Transition

Weak Hand Transition

What is it?

Lets face it. Most of us spend 99% of our time, when shooting, doing so with our dominate hand.

I once read that most injuries sustained in a gun fight occur to the hands. They are up and out in front of you in the firing position and end up covering a large portion of your torso and face. With the bad guy shooting back it is only logical that a shot to the hand is a real possibility.

There are also other reasons you may need to shoot with your off hand, such as positioning, your other arm being pinned, etc. Think about the many other reasons why you may not have the ability at all times to shoot with your dominant hand. Our position is that if is a possibility then it is something we need to train for; expect the unexpected.

Time Period - 20 Repetitions per day for a week. This drill will take at most 10 minutes per day

Drill -

With an unloaded and safe firearm aim as you normally would with an interlocking grip: Now imagine taking a round to the back of your dominate hand and immediately transitioning to a one hand weak hand grip. There are a variety of different methods for transitioning your gun from your dominant to weak hand. For now we're going to leave that up to you. The important thing is finding what works and feels best for you. Make sure to keep the transition as smooth and steady as possible. This can be an easy time to fumble your weapon; focus on getting a secure grip with your off-hand before letting go with your dominant hand.

After making the transition acquire your target using your weak hand and dry fire the weapon.

Note: We recommend that you still acquire your sight picture with your dominate eye. It will be the natural course of action. How do you know which eye is your dominant eye? Find out here!
